Our NEMA 14-30/14-50/14-60 Gen 1 adapter lets you charge your Tesla Model S or Model X with Gen 1 UMC at 30 amp 4-wire outlets, commonly used for electric dryers in homes built after 1996. It can also plug in to NEMA 14-50 and NEMA 14-60 outlets, due to its specially designed plug. However, please note that the adapter will limit your charging speed to only 24 amps even on these higher power outlets.
Just like Tesla's OEM adapters, our adapter has an internal circuit that communicates with the car to automatically set the appropriate 24 amp charging current. No need to manually set the current - simply plug it in! Cable length is 18 inches.
As a bonus, we've made this adapter using our special 3-prong "universal" plug so you can also use it to plug in to NEMA 14-50 and 14-60 outlets at the same 24 amp rate. Tesla does not use the neutral wire, so by omitting the neutral prong our plug can fit 14-30, 14-50, and 14-60 outlets. The plug has a convenient handle making it easy to unplug, and safer by keeping your fingers away from the outlet.
Which adapter do you need?
Tesla vehicles delivered prior to December 15th 2017 came with the Gen 1 UMC. All new Tesla vehicles come with the Gen 2 UMC. If you’re not sure, take a look at the charger cord that came with your car, and compare to the pictures below:
If your Tesla came with the Gen 2 UMC, it will not work with this adapter - in that case, you'll need one of our Gen 2 adapters instead. All new Tesla vehicles come with the Gen 2 UMC. If your vehicle has the Gen 1 UMC, you can use this adapter.
